His grainy baritone and jazz sensitivity give
vocalist Frank Noviello a unique sound...Noviello’s singular sound
and inventive phrasing are wonderfully complemented by Ohno’s
imaginative accompaniment. Joe Lang - Review of
"Jilted" Noviello is also
a hugely appealing, even charismatic, performer, exuding enthusiasm and
love for the music he's doing. It doesn't hurt that he sounds like
a hip cross between the grainy tone and swagger of Tony Bennett
and the adventurous harmonic flights of Mark Murphy. Like Murphy, he, too
is a superb scat singer and interpreter of vocalese...He also knows a
very wide repertoire, so a typical set could include Horace Silver's "Song
for My Father," Duke Ellington's "I'm just a Lucky So and So," Davis' "All
Blues," and the standards "Crazy She Calls Me" and "I Love Being Here With
You." A first-rate jazz
singer with a luminous tenor voice and a superbly supple sense of time.
Noviello, who deserves his own CD, lights up "While We're Young," sliding
smoothly from theme notes to
embellishments.

Many musicians as well as listeners like the comfort
of set arrangements and recognizable tunes, but Noviello keeps himself and
the audience open to
surprises.
